Memory Care

Memory care helps seniors living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia maintain their quality of life through daily living assistance and brain fitness activities. Although there is no cure for dementia and memory loss, the progression of the disease can potentially be slowed with the right care.

Our Approach to Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care

At Providence Place, we provide customized care for residents with memory loss in Pennsylvania. Our approach is to offer the right level of memory support at the right time. We make this possible by operating separate programs for different stages of dementia: early stage and late stage.

We recognize that each resident is unique and has a story to tell. That’s why we make the extra effort to get to know them before they move to a Providence Place senior living community.

Support for Physical and Cognitive Health

Our program focuses on both physical and cognitive health. Since physical activity stimulates and improves brain function, we invested in state-of-the-art Biodex® fitness equipment at our senior living facilities. Our physical fitness program includes one-on-one exercise sessions and group activities, like the walking club.

Brain fitness really is a matter of “use it or lose it”. We’ve found fun ways for residents to exercise their minds. Through the use of It’s Never 2 Late™ touch screen computer system, and other proven forms of dementia therapy, residents have the opportunity to stay active and connected through technology that is entertaining and stimulating.

As a person’s cognitive needs change, so does their need for care. That’s why we developed dual programs, The Club and The Connections Neighborhood. This continuum of memory care makes it possible for residents to live successfully at any stage of dementia. The aging-in-place approach is innovative, yet proven effective. Caregivers and licensed nurses are available 24 hours a day to monitor residents’ health and safety needs.

Early Stage Dementia:
Connections Club

Residents living with mild memory loss are eligible and encouraged to enroll in our Connections Club program. The Club provides exclusively to Club members additional structure, companionship, daily reminders, and small group activities that focus on brain fitness and intentional living. The Connections Club Coordinator provides reassurance and support, and ultimately ensures participants take advantage of all Providence Place has to offer.

Connections Club is offered at all Providence Place communities.

Mid-to-Late Stage Dementia: The Connections Neighborhood

Providence Place’s Connections Neighborhood is thoughtfully designed for those residents with moderate to late stage Alzheimer’s, or related brain changes. This is a secure, homelike setting that meets our residents’ needs for safety and security as well as
peace-of-mind.

Due to the risk of wandering associated with Alzheimer’s, our exterior doors open to a secure outdoor courtyard. The layout and design of our building gives residents access to the outdoors and all of our community amenities, while promoting safety and independence. Staff who work in the Connections Neighborhood receive extensive training on providing specialized dementia care.

The Connections Neighborhood is available at every Providence Place location.

In an effort to make each Connections resident feel welcome, we have developed the “Resident Life Story.” This activity provides valuable biographical information that helps our team give customized care for each person living within the Connections Neighborhood. We ask family and friends to help us complete each resident’s Life Story with specific details prior to move-in day so the transition goes smoothly.

All of our Connections team members receive dementia training. Providence Place provides Positive Approach to Care®. This training, conceived by Teepa Snow, offers ongoing fundamental awareness and knowledge that implements skill and grows competence while providing quality care.

When Is It Time to Move?

Families often struggle with the question, “When is it time to move into a senior living community?” Most people understandably want to provide care at home for as long as possible. However, when daily life starts to become difficult for a loved one with dementia, it’s time to consider assisted living with memory care. And when your loved one is in danger if left alone (for example, wandering off or leaving the stove on), they need the higher level of care that senior living provides.

Learn more about when it’s time to move a loved one into a memory care facility.

We know that when a family member experiences the effects of Alzheimer’s or dementia, the entire family needs support. That’s why we offer monthly caregiver support groups and other opportunities to learn about the disease and talk with people who share a similar experience. We also give families direct access to a manager who is knowledgeable about their loved one’s care and condition. If you have any questions or concerns about your loved one, it’s easy to get in touch with the right person.

Through our 20+ years of experience, we know the difficult journey you and your family have ahead of you. We also know that despite these challenges, residents can live enjoyable, fulfilling lives.

At Providence Place, seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia in Pennsylvania are able to live with purpose and dignity. Residents build upon their life stories every day. Let us support you and your family through the journey of caregiving.
